Classroom: In the computer lab, we began to type out the written responses to "Why did the Roman Empire decline?" Students are using Google Classroom to type and turn in responses. We will be in the computer lab for the next two class periods.
* October 31 & November 1: Finished typing out responses in library lab. Homework: Blue and Green -- Chapter 20 questions due tomorrow. Red and Orange-- Turn in any late work! Classwork: In class, we began our common task for quarter 1. For this task we will be using both primary sources and secondary sources to answer the overarching question: "Why did the Roman Empire collapse?" Today, we read the secondary source and completing a think-pair-share discuss to analyze the information. The second half of class, we began analyzing the primary sources and completing a graphic organizer, to help with our written response.
Homework: Read Chapter 20: The Vikings (you received a print out version in class). Answer questions 4 & 5 on the back of the article. Classwork: Today, we worked on the Tribe Research project. Students collected research and categorized it into-- politics, economics, society, and culture. We discussed the "Big Picture" which is how these tribes interacted with Rome, during the Early Middle Ages. These projects will be due early next week.
Homework: None! Classwork: Today, we learned and practiced our before, during, and after reading strategies. These strategies are apart of the "Close Reading" method. As a class, we modeled how to use these strategies effectively, before trying on our own. The second half of class, we participated in a "Historian Workshop." During this workshop, we used the close reading digital playlist and our Quarter 1 goals, to identify our stair (areas for improvement) skills. Each student completed different activities/practices based on their skill level. Our goal is to reach Level Green in all areas of the close reading rubric, see below. Homework: Complete a close read on Chapter 19.1. You received this article in class. Please see Ms. Leach if you were absent.
Classwork: Red and Oranges met today. Students were given time to get caught up on any missing work, before we learned about our Early Middle Ages' research project. For this project, each group selected a tribe to research and create a presentation. Presentations included the government, daily life, culture, and politics of the tribes. This project will be completed in class. Homework: Orange: Finish letter. Red: Finish Chapter 17 notes. Classwork: We began class by reviewing the Chapter 17 homework, on the Germans. We participated in a Pear Deck discussion/quiz. We learned about Charlemagne and the Frankish kingdom. Each group investigated one section of Chapter 18. Next, we presented and shared our section with the class. The second half of class was spent completing research for our research project. We confirmed our topics, and researching plan. Ms. Leach checked in with each group about their progress. * Red and Orange will have extra time on Monday, as they did not have research time on 10/13. Homework: Red/Orange: Finish "Beginning of the Middle Ages" reading and graphic organizer. Blue/Green: Complete any missing work for Tuesday. Classwork: Red and Orange class began learning about the Germanic Tribes. During this unit, we will be learning about the different barbarian tribes, while investigating one tribe. On Wednesday & Thursday, we will be starting a research project about the tribes in the Early Middle Ages.
Homework: Red/Orange Class: Please complete your chapter 17 notes for Thursday, 10/13. If you have not in class. The chapter passage is attached to your Google Classroom page. If you do not have access please see me tomorrow (10/12) to get a hard copy of the passage. Classwork: After reviewing growth mindset values, we used this concept to develop our own learning goals. We examined our close reading and argument writing pre-tests, and created data-charts to document our growth this year. We created action plans, to determine our success in meeting these learning goals. During the year, we will be participating in playlist-workshops, to target our identify goals and areas for improvement with analyzing primary and secondary sources. At this time, I will conference with each students regarding his or her progress. Homework: Great job this week! No homework :)
Classwork: We began class by participating in a "Challenge Activity." Students needed to examine a structure, created by Ms. Leach, and try to re-create it. After finishing the activity, we had a discussion about our feelings and frustration regarding this recreation. This activity lead to a discussion regarding "Growth Mindset." We reflected on situations of fixed mindset, and situations or examples of a growth mindset.
On Friday/Monday, we will be using a growth mindset to create personal goals, regarding abilities to Close Read primary sources and use evidence of sources to support a claim. Homework: Blue/Green: Please finish the written Growth Mindset notes (on the brain-handouts) |
